Finance Assistant

Vicon is the world leader in Motion Capture, developing high performance software and innovative hardware products for the entertainment, engineering and medical industries. Vicon Motion Systems Ltd is a subsidiary company of Oxford Metrics (OMG plc). 

Role Summary:

We are looking for a permanent, full time Finance Assistant to work within Vicon’s finance team. Although predominantly home-based, you will train in the office until established in post. You will be required to work from the Yarnton office at least once a week, and for extended periods during busier times. The role may include work across all group companies and requires a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual, who is keen to contribute to all aspects of the UK accounting function. The role has the potential to develop with the ability of the successful candidate. 

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be required to liaise confidently with internal stakeholders at all levels.

Main Responsibilities:

To include, but are not limited to the following:

Accounts payable/receivable

  • Accounts payable – processing, payment, matching POD’s, reconciling and handling queries
  • Accounts receivable – assisting with debt collection and general ledger posting
  • Managing company credit cards – including matching claims to statements
  • Cash claims – recording expenditure, reimbursements and reconciliations
  • Electronic filing

Bank and Cash

  • Managing cash books and bank reconciliations in multiple currencies
  • Recording and communicating monies received 
  • Making cash book entries

Month end

  • Supporting the Assistant Accountant with month end procedure including:
  • Reconciliation of the general ledger accounts
  • Reconciliation of the bank accounts
  • Ensure expenditure is posted to proper accounts
  • Processing sales batches
  • Update spreadsheets, templates and forms as necessary
  • Communicate performance against departmental KPI’s

Financial analysis

  • Assist with credit assessments
  • Work with the Assistant Accountant and suggest changes to internal department procedures, and involvement in the department’s continuous improvement initiatives
  • Undertaking specific analysis and tasks at the request of the senior team members

Person Specification:

  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, flexible individual who would be keen to ‘muck in’ and is a self-developer
  • A strong communicator with ability to contribute in team exercises
  • A willing and helpful manner toward resolving, analysing and investigating accounting discrepancies

Required Skills:

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a comparable busy finance role
  • Excellent time management
  • Fluent in verbal and written English
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Good working knowledge of Excel (Vlookup’s/pivots desired)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritise workload

Desirable Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce

Qualifications: 

The job requires some previous experience and/or a strong willingness to work in a finance department. Equally important is the candidate’s attention to detail, flexibility, intuition, a methodical approach to prioritising and performing tasks, and good interpersonal relations with members of other departments. 

The successful candidate would ideally have a desire to study towards an accounting qualification.
