Meraki Talent are supporting with the appointment of a permanent Assistant Accountant based in the central belt of Scotland paying £25,000 - £32,000.

The Role

The role of Assistant Accountant is a highly varied role where communication and people skills are equally important as technical ability. The individual must be comfortable in business partnering with non-financial stakeholders and collaborating with the finance team exceed expectations. This role would suit an Assistant Accountant in industry seeking a more progressive role/environment or an individual from business advisory/outsourced finance within public practice.

Strong experience of management accounts, VAT returns and bookkeeping is essential, ideally with budgeting/forecasting exposure. Experience of preparation statutory accounts would be advantageous but not essential as the business and management team are more than willing to invest their time to train on this component of the role.

The role of Assistant Accountant can be done remotely from anywhere within the central belt of Scotland, ideally with the ability to attend the office a few times a month for team get togethers and strategic planning meetings. The role will offer:

You will be involved in but not restricted to the following duties:

  • Reporting to and deputising for the Finance Manager with a dotted line to the Finance Director’s
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Preparation of statutory accounts
  • Assisting with budgeting and forecasting
  • Variance analysis
  • VAT returns
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Month end - accruals, prepayments, journals, bank reconciliations
  • Overseeing transactional processing - AP, AR, credit control
  • Assisting with the development of processes, procedures, controls & systems
  • Adhoc duties

To be considered you must have the following experience:

  • Experience of management accounts, bookkeeping and VAT returns - ESSENTIAL
  • Xero experience - ESSENTIAL
  • Budget & forecasting exposure - desirable
  • Statutory accounts preparation experience - advantageous but not essential
  • Excellent communication and people skills - ESSENTIAL
