Electronics Buyer/Materials Manager
Temporary to Permanent
Full-Time (at least 37.5 hours per week)
£12-£15 per hour

We are thrilled to be assisting our Cirencester based client – manufacturers of electronic solutions – in recruiting an Electronics Buyer/Materials Manager to join their friendly team. The purpose of this job is to ensure that the purchasing and management of goods and materials facilitate smooth and profitable production, as well as supporting high productivity and quality assurance of completed products.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Business Management –

Occasionally participate in the strategic decision making process for the business.

Participate in regular meetings to discuss and expedite existing and new sales orders and works orders.

Assist in the planning process (setting and agreeing financial targets and budgets with the Directors).

Maintain list of key long lead/high value parts and assemblies and regularly review to ensure the timely delivery of products.

Sales and Sales Order Processing –

Liaise with customers throughout the process of designing and agreeing work to be done.

Build professional relationships with customers and new enquiries which facilitate business growth.

Regularly communicate information so that status of orders on system match the agreed deadlines.

Once order has been confirmed, check details and bill of materials and raise works order where necessary.

Check stock of component parts and investigate left overs from previous jobs where appropriate.

Raise queries before purchasing parts and liaise with customers where necessary.

Place orders with approved suppliers for requisite parts as listed in requirements.

Check system continuously throughout the day for new jobs, part reminders, reworks, shortages etc.

Troubleshoot in Production to ensure that workflow and productivity are optimised.

Respond to enquiries about job progress and liaise constructively with customers to meet their requirements.

Troubleshoot throughout the processing of work over parts, alternatives, changing customer requirements or changing priorities.

Collaborate closely with the Managing Director and Production Manager over work in progress, customer priorities and potential work.

Purchasing and Materials –

Manage the day-to-day requirements and controls of the Purchasing Module on the Manufacturing Control System (including expediting deliveries of late orders).

Ensure the timely procurement of the best value product for production and engineering requirements.

Maintain minimum stock levels of commonly used and bespoke parts.

Raising purchase orders as required by shortage database and progress through to delivery.

Be responsible for the performance of all suppliers, including site meetings as required, to maintain delivery and quality requirements.

Ensure suppliers comply with the company’s formal requirements for the completion of corrective actions and ensuring close out.

Maintain adequate records of supplier meetings and any corrective action plans for improvements.

Minimise total acquisition cost by reducing delivery lead times and supporting quality improvement efforts as necessary.

Maintain sound communication with other departments.

Ensure that the stock database is continually updated and cleansed.

Ensure that all new stock items are entered onto the system.

Deal with difficulties over suppliers and deliveries and resolving maters to avoid unnecessary downtime.

Negotiate best value deals with suppliers where possible, always seeking new opportunities.

Manage Stores staff, ensuring adherence to the Manufacturing Control System work schedules and priorities and ensuring manufacturing requirements are reprocessed after picking process.

Ensure that orders are checked on arrival and deal with any anomalies/problems.

Ensure that left over kit is properly recorded and stored for future jobs.

Health and Safety –

Keep immediate working environment safe and tidy, ensuring access to work and free of hazards.

Comply fully with Health and Safety policy and procedures.

Notify appropriate managers of potential hazards where action is required.

Assist in the investigation of any accidents in the workplace, documenting findings and making any recommendations for action.

General –

Ensure Compliance with Quality Assurance systems and procedures, encouraging compliance in others and identifying problem areas for management resolution.

Comply with HR policies and procedures and encourage staff to do the same.

Conduct selection interviews with the MD and other Directors and ensure that documentation is properly completed.

Act as a ‘Buddy’ to allocated new staff and participate in their induction programme.

Help to identify specific training needs of other members of the team either for new employees or an a remedial basis for existing team members.

Ensure that problems affecting the Materials department and production in general are made known to the production manager.

Help to identify improvements that might assist productivity or working conditions and convey in the appropriate forum.

Apply technical knowledge to evaluate methodologies on a continuing basis suggesting improvements where potential benefits could be realised.

The Person:

Previous experience is desirable.

Pay a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
