Job Description

Assistant Vice Principal - Permanent Contract - Sept 2022
Welcome to Manchester Academy, a vibrant, inclusive school and one of the most improved schools in the country, in the heart of Manchester.

Manchester Academy is highly ambitious for our students and has strong systems to support this progress. Our teaching model utilises Rosenshine’s principles and we offer excellent support for new staff and early career colleagues. Many of our leaders have trained with us and are now leading change across the Academy. Our ambition for our students is matched but the expertise and passion across our staff team. Our unique location in the centre of our city means we are well served by public transport and accessible without a car.

We have a detailed curriculum across all subjects and dedicate significant time to academic teams to discuss, plan and share planning and resources. As part of one of the most ambitious Trusts in the country, United Learning, we are fortunate to be part of a much bigger network of professional practice which complements the curriculum leadership within the Academy. Opportunities are not just focused around our academic curriculum; at Manchester Academy, we firmly believe there is more to a good education than excellent exam grades which is why we are committed to providing an Education with Character. This means that in everything we do - both inside and outside the classroom - we seek to nurture key skills that are vital for life beyond school such as team-building, resilience, creativity, public speaking and enterprise.

Manchester Academy is looking for passionate people to join our incredible team. We will support you to be brilliant and enjoy your job. Our leadership team is human and put in high presence around the Academy to support and develop colleagues. Every day our staff ‘make Manchester magic’ with our amazing students and change lives. We’d love for you to join us and be part of something you’ll never forget.

The role

We have an exciting and unique opportunity for an individual to join our Senior Leadership Team and work closely with the Principal to improve academic standards through leading the development, implementation, review and monitoring of strategies that remove barriers to learning and create a culture and climate that enables all students to develop a strong set of values and make good academic progress.

About You

We are currently looking to appoint an individual to;

To lead the Academy’s Culture and Character programme, including form period, the pastoral curriculum and out of lesson opportunities/enrichment.

To track behaviour, punctuality and attendance then plan strategy and interventions that enable students to maximise their potential.

In return we will provide you with;

• The opportunity to be part of our hardworking, diverse and friendly team.

• Support with CPD and Development needs.

• A positive and modern environment in which to work in.

United Learning

Manchester Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.
