Assistant Lending Manager (Partner Lending)


Location: Hybrid Cirencester/Remote home working available (min 2 days p/wk in Cirencester)

This key role is required to assist with the credit assessment and underwriting of loans to SJP Partners. Previous experience in lending/financial services is required and the ability to interpret and analyse financial information and data is critical. This person will assist with the preparation and presentation of complex credit applications and have responsibility for reviewing and checking loan agreement documentation prepared by colleagues.

Maintain & manage fast moving loan pipeline (through all stages) from initial request to draw down.
Act as initial contact point for all New Lending related queries received from within Partner Finance, Head Office and the wider Partnership.
To deliver responsible lending in accordance with SJP Credit & Collections Policy including CCA
Regulations whilst monitoring productivity and Quality Service standards.

What you’ll be doing:  

Use sound judgement to approve new lending requests and technical understanding to ensure the outcome delivers responsible lending that supports the growth of Partner businesses.
Responsible for maintaining the lending pipeline to ensure cash flow operates within lending targets and that there is sufficient opportunity to review proposed new lending and issue the required documentation ahead of draw down deadlines.
Consult with Partners and Field Management, working with all parties to reach best decisions around new lending/refinancing. Agree and approve new restructure terms.
Ability to discuss and provide guidance on new lending requests with Partners, FMT and senior management. Confident to give face to face presentations on this specialist subject.
Undertake liaison with SJP legal department in relation to bespoke lending documentation to ensure compliance where appropriate with CCA Regulations and Company regulation.
Line management for more junior team members supporting them to provide operational excellence whilst maintaining a right first time approach to BAU.

Who we’re looking for:

Previous experience in lending/financial services including all types of lending entities.
Ability to interpret and analyse financial information/data provided as part of the approval process.
Studying towards a professional qualification in finance/banking preferable.
Broad understanding of how lending and Partner finance impacts SJP as a whole.
Effective liaison with third party providers.
Thorough understanding of lending and underwriting process whilst keeping up to date with relevant regulatory and compliance changes.
Ability to work within a lending framework and make decisions on a case to case basis having analysed the Partners’ personal finances and accounts.
Initiative and personal judgement to understand bespoke complex lending.
Ability to offer guidance to less experienced team members.
Effective interaction with the Partnership, FMT and external Banks.
Effective communication with multiple internal stakeholders/departments.
Tactful and diplomatic communication skills.
Self-motivated and able to work alone and in a team.
Adaptable communication style to suit audience, professional at all times.

Professional qualification(s) in banking / financial services desired but not essential.

Special Requirements:

There may be a requirement to make appropriate field visits out of hours to meet with Partners and Third Parties.

The individual must be able to travel if required, as well as to be flexible around working hours as and when required by the company.
