Moffatt & Nichol is actively searching for an Economic Analyst, with emphasis on Maritime Transport, to join our London team. The ideal candidate brings experience performing research, economic and financial analysis in the commercial sector, and is creative, goal oriented, and proactive.
The Economic Analyst will work with a small, globally networked, London-based team that collaborates with our Commercial Advisory Teams in Europe, USA, and Latin America. We deliver a wide range of bespoke client analyses, including market studies, competitive and strategic analyses, transaction support, energy transition, net-zero targets, and due diligence projects. Our Advisory Team’s clients include port and terminal operators, financial institutions such as infrastructure and pension funds, investment banks, private lending institutions, and government entities.
Moffatt & Nichol is an independent global infrastructure advisor comprised of 850+ employees in 40 offices and 7 countries, serving stakeholders involved in ports and marine terminals, shipping, intermodal and hinterland markets, and the offshore wind industry, in addition to the company’s core engineering practices.
Duties & responsibilities:
Conduct independent research and analysis for global projects focusing on economy and trade, analyzing trends to support decision making for our maritime, financial, investment, and government clients
Create presentations that depict economic trends to support client decision making
Contribute to and participate in client presentations that illustrate the results of economic research and analyses
Lead small market/feasibility study projects
Develop and implement tools for the Advisory team that improve efficiencies in data collection, management, and presentation
Collaborate with internal clients and development teams to ensure that projects are delivered on time and on budget
Represent Moffatt & Nichol at meetings, conferences, and events
Adept at working across global time zones to deliver client objectives
Domestic and international travel as needed
Outside of the aforementioned responsibilities, the individual will have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic plan for the Advisory Team and specifically, its growth vision for Europe. An energy-sector background, including offshore wind and/or future fuels such as green hydrogen and ammonia, will also allow for the individual to undertake a key role in the company’s development in those sectors going forward.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Business Management, or Global Transport (rail, road, or sea)
2 to 5 years of direct experience working in a consultancy/advisory environment
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and high-level programming experience (i.e.: SQL, Python); proficient using the Microsoft suite
Specific interests in global infrastructure development, maritime transport, and global logistics
Highly collaborative; excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Additional language fluency is highly desirable
Experience formatting and presenting analytical information to a variety of clients with and without analytical backgrounds
Strong analytical thinking skills
Poised and professional working with multi-disciplinary teams, senior management, and a diverse client portfolio
Accuracy and efficiently under pressure while engaging in multiple initiatives simultaneously
Majority of working hours are desk-based. Availability to attend meetings during core business hours as well as evenings or early mornings due to multiple time zone practice. Occasional overseas travel.
