Springer Nature is seeking an Economist for its highly-regarded Data and Analytics Solutions group. The group develops new data products that aim to transform science as well as meeting the needs of Springer Nature’s Research division which includes Nature, Springer, BioMedCentral and Scientific American. This is an exciting opportunity as the team is expanding from strong foundations into new solutions, and we are looking for someone who is able to develop economic insight and models of research impact, with support from the wider team where necessary.
As an Economist, you will be drawing on the most cutting-edge methods in behavioural economics, econometrics, psychology and data science to deliver insights and solutions on how science drives economic and societal impact. You’ll be able to think broadly about how science impacts the world, going beyond historical measures, and developing new frameworks and models that support Springer Nature and its customers in delivering impact from science. Your solutions will deliver insights to our customers through consulting services and data products, as well as supporting the wider Springer Nature group in research publishing activities.
You will be working in close partnership with data analysts, data scientists and data engineers, as well as other colleagues from Springer Nature and our technology partners including Google. You will have opportunities to work with the latest data and analytics technologies and some of the most interesting and rich data available.
Role responsibilities will include:
Gathering, analysing and blending data to produce business and economic insights, and give recommendations on how to further improve sciences impact to Springer Nature and its customers
Developing models of how science drives economic and societal benefit
Build strong and proactive relationships with relevant business stakeholders and senior management, providing insights and analytics to support in achieving the strategic goals of the business
Increase the adoption of economics across Springer Nature and develop new approaches for its customers to understand and leverage economic insights
Being an advocate for a data-driven culture, share thought leadership on tools and best practices,
Introducing compelling data visualizations and interactive dashboards that allow right decision-making in a timely manner
Strong academic background and a Masters level qualification in behavioural economics, behavioural science, experimental economics, applied psychology, social data science or a related discipline from a leading university
Ability to extract, cleanse and combine data and make sense of it using software and tools like SQL, Big Query, Python/R, Looker
Strong statistical and econometric skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to tell compelling stories from the data
Strong ability to influence, with highly effective negotiation and presentation skills
Experience in identifying patterns and connecting different pieces of information to deliver unobvious insights drawing information from diverse and varied sources.
Excellent analytical problem solving capabilities coupled with business acumen
Well organized and accurate with good time management
Good networker, able to build up effective relations with internal business partners
