Introduction
An exciting opportunity to join TfW as our Senior Economist to be the technical lead on transport economics, including taking account of environmental, socio-economic and wider economic impacts to build the case for transport investment in Wales, at both a strategic programme and individual scheme level and with a particular focus on rail investment.
Role responsibilities
You’ll provide technical advice and prepare the economic impact sections of business cases being developed by TfW and Network Rail by drawing on specialist economics knowledge to help make an informed case for transport investment in Wales.
You'll improve project and programme business cases by identifying the full range of potential wider economic benefits and considering the range of outcomes that may result from investment to maximise the chance of obtaining scheme funding.
You'll also provide technical advice on investment priorities across TfW and Network Rail in Wales by leading on economic appraisal work to monetise the environmental (carbon), health and wider economic benefits.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll need to have:
Chartered membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. IHT, ILT, ICE, TPP) or working towards chartership.
Demonstrable experience of delivering economic appraisal and wider economic impact assessment services to clients.
In-depth knowledge of using and interpreting economic data and terminology (relating to GVA, GDP, additionality, induced investment, agglomeration and cost-benefit appraisal).
Experience of undertaking cost-benefit appraisals across a range of projects.

Welsh Language Skills
