Job Description

Sporty SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH | Sheffield

Tradewind Recruitment | £95-£120 per day

We are looking for a sporty Teaching Assistant! Former sports coaches, sports graduates or candidates with a coaching degree would be a great fit for this role.

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an energetic, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEMH school in Sheffield, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can use their passion for sport to engage pupils, build positive relationships and encourage positive behaviour.

The Role
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom and during practical activities.

  • Use sport, physical activity and teamwork to engage pupils and encourage participation.

  • Help manage challenging behaviour through consistent boundaries and positive relationships.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and social skills.

  • Assist teachers with learning activities and day-to-day classroom routines.

  • Encourage pupils to develop resilience, teamwork and self-discipline.

  • Help create a structured, safe and supportive learning environment.

Please note: This is a challenging role. Pupils may display difficult or disruptive behaviour, struggle with emotional regulation or disengage from learning. The successful candidate must be patient, resilient and confident maintaining boundaries while building positive relationships.

Pay Rate - £95-£120 per day

The daily rate will depend on relevant experience, qualifications and the school's available budget.

Candidates at the higher end of the pay scale will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.

  • A background in sports coaching, PE, youth work or a related field.

  • Experience using sport to engage young people and promote positive behaviour.

  • Relevant qualifications or training.

  • Availability to commit to the role on a full-time basis.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Has a genuine passion for sport, fitness or physical activity.

  • Is confident managing behaviour and motivating young people.

  • Is energetic, patient, resilient and adaptable.

  • Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.

  • Works well as part of a wider classroom team.

  • Wants to make a genuine difference to young people who may have struggled in mainstream education.
