Financial Controller in Langley - Think Accountancy and Finance

Think Accountancy & Finance are working with a well-established, successful privately owned business based in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, who are looking to appoint a Financial Controller to take ownership of their finance function.

This is a genuinely hands-on role for a technically strong, qualified accountant who enjoys being close to the detail but can also step back and understand the wider commercial picture.

You'll be joining an established business with a strong reputation in its sector and a friendly, experienced team. The role would suit someone who is confident working autonomously, enjoys improving processes and controls, and isn't afraid to get stuck into the numbers.

The role

You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day financial control of the business, leading and developing the finance team and ensuring the business has accurate, timely and meaningful financial information.

You'll be involved across:

• Month and year-end processes, including accruals, prepayments, provisions, depreciation and balance sheet reconciliations
• Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and Board reporting
• VAT returns and wider tax compliance
• Statutory accounts and external audit
• Budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management
• Working capital, liquidity and cash management
• Financial controls, processes and reporting
• Reviewing and improving finance systems and processes
• Supporting commercial teams with financial analysis and insight
• Monitoring margins, costs and business performance
• Managing and developing the finance team
• Working closely with senior management and providing constructive financial challenge

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is technically strong, self-sufficient and hands-on.

You'll ideally be:

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified or QBE with relevant experience
• Experienced in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance position
• Strong technically, with a good understanding of UK accounting standards/FRS
• Experienced across month-end, year-end, VAT, statutory accounts and audit
• Comfortable owning balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
• Confident with budgeting, forecasting and cashflow
• An experienced people manager
• Strong with Excel and finance systems
• Naturally inquisitive and someone who looks for ways to improve how things are done
• Commercially aware and confident communicating with non-finance stakeholders

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can work with autonomy. You'll be trusted to take ownership, understand the detail, identify issues and, importantly, come forward with solutions rather than simply highlighting problems.
