A welcoming Reading primary school is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Assistant to support pupils with SEN and SEMH needs within a specialist Resource Base.

As a Mental Health Assistant, you will support pupils from Reception to Year 6 who may have Autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma-related behaviours and SEMH needs.

Your role will include:

• Supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing.
• Helping pupils build confidence and independence.
• Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
• Developing strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Working alongside teachers, SEN staff and therapists.
• Supporting therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.

The ideal Mental Health Assistant will have:

• A caring, patient and empathetic approach.
• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• An interest in psychology, counselling, therapy, education or social care.
• A relevant degree is desirable but not essential.
