Job Description

Your new company
This is a friendly and inclusive primary school that prides itself on providing a supportive environment for both pupils and staff. The school has a strong commitment to meeting the needs of every child and offers excellent support structures for its teaching assistants and wider support team.
Your new role
This rewarding role involves providing individualised support to a Year 4 female pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the pupil access learning, develop positive relationships, and achieve both academic and personal goals within a nurturing school environment.
As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored support to a Year 4 pupil with SEMH needs throughout the school day.
  • Build a positive, trusting, and consistent relationship with the pupil.
  • Support emotional regulation and implement strategies to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to deliver individual support plans.
  • Encourage engagement in lessons and promote independence where appropriate.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor progress, record observations, and contribute to pupil reviews.

What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional learning needs.
  • A calm, resilient, and patient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to adapt support strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Experience working within a primary school setting (desirable).
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications or equivalent experience (desirable).

What you'll get in return

  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • Access to free CPD and training opportunities.
  • Dedicated support from your own Hays Education Consultant.
  • Opportunities for long-term and permanent positions.
  • Flexible working options to suit your needs.
