Job Description

Our client, a well-established freight forwarding and logistics company based local in Heathrow, is seeking an experienced Airfreight Import Operative to join their growing import team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an import professional with strong customs knowledge and experience managing high-value shipments in a fast-paced airfreight environment.


Will be responsible for coordinating airfreight import shipments from arrival through to customs clearance and final delivery, ensuring all shipments are handled efficiently and in compliance with UK customs regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage inbound airfreight shipments in line with customer requirements.
  • Prepare and submit customs documentation, including import declarations and CITES documentation.
  • Arrange import customs clearances and coordinate deliveries.
  • Liaise with airlines, airport handlers, transport providers and customs authorities.
  • Provide customers with regular shipment updates and resolve any operational issues.
  • Maintain accurate shipping files and operational records.
  • Monitor shipment status and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Support the wider import team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure company quality procedures and compliance standards are followed at all times.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience within airfreight imports or freight forwarding (essential).
  • Experience handling high-value goods is highly desirable.
  • Good knowledge of UK customs regulations and import procedures.
  • Experience with import regimes including Bonded Warehousing, Inward Processing Relief (IPR) and Temporary Importation (TIB).
  • Working knowledge of CDS.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Knowledge of AS400, SAP and Microsoft Office would be advantageous.
  • Fluent English is essential.
  • Italian and/or French language skills would be beneficial.

Successful applicants will be required to pass a full DBS check and meet aviation security screening requirements.
