Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Deputy Manager to join our residential care team in Derby. The role involves supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), additional needs, and challenging behaviours within a safe, nurturing, and structured residential environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting positive outcomes for young people by providing emotional support, guidance, and practical care while encouraging independence, education, and personal development. The successful candidate will lead and manage a team, including supervisions and carrying out inductions to new starters. The candidate will also be in charge in the absence of the manager and must be able to manage staffing, Reg 44's, Ofsted and external visits.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people in a residential setting.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Manage challenging behaviours using positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques.
  • Promote safeguarding, health and safety, and the wellbeing of all children and young people.
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Complete accurate records, incident reports, risk assessments, and care documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with social workers, schools, healthcare professionals, and families.
  • Manage the home in the absence of the Registered Manager.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment.
  • Support new staff members and contribute positively to team development where required.

Role Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children and young people in residential care or support settings.
  • Experience supporting children with EBD, additional needs, and challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Flexible approach to shift work, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Children & Young People completed
  • Desirable to have Level 5 in Leadership & Management or the willingness to enrol
