The Opportunity
An established business is seeking a proactive and capable Assistant Accountant to join its finance function. This is a key role within the transactional finance operations team, acting as a number two and supporting the smooth running, development, and improvement of day-to-day finance processes.
While there will be an element of traditional invoice processing, this role is far broader in scope. It will suit someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership, and is keen to step beyond routine processing into a more involved and impactful position.

The Role
Reporting into the Finance Director, you will support a high-performing transactional team and play an active role in improving workflows and processes. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their finance career within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting transactional finance operations, including invoice processing
  • Acting as a key support to the Finance Manager and the Finance Director across varied ad-hoc finance tasks
  • Assisting with workflow streamlining, process improvement, and automation initiatives
  • Using Excel to analyse data, improve reporting, and support operational efficiencies
  • Working collaboratively with an established and reliable finance team
  • Prepare monthly management accounts accurately and on time
  • Post month-end journals, including prepayments and accruals
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain the fixed asset register
  • Produce month-end and ad hoc reports, including variance analysis and clear commentary
  • Monitor business performance against budget and forecast

About You

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts role
  • Strong Excel skills (essential)
  • A self-starter with a proactive, inquisitive, and "can-do" attitude
  • Comfortable working outside of rigid processes and taking ownership of tasks
  • Experience supporting or implementing process improvements would be highly advantageous
  • Studying towards CIMA / ACCA (or open to study)

Benefits

  • Salary up to £38,000 (DOE)
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Free on-site parking
  • Study Support and career development
