Assistant Accountant in Ely - Robert Half

Robert Half are pleased to be working with a well-established organisation based in Ely to recruit an Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to broaden their experience within a supportive and collaborative finance team.

Working closely with colleagues across the finance function and wider business, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting financial reporting, reconciliations, and the day-to-day running of the accounts function.

• Assist with the production of monthly management accounts, including preparing and posting journals such as accruals and prepayments, and supporting overhead analysis

• Carry out balance sheet reconciliations and help investigate and resolve any discrepancies

• Support the reconciliation of stock and goods received not invoiced (GRNI) balances

• Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns and other required financial filings

• Maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring records remain accurate

• Ensure financial records, supporting documentation and accounting systems are kept accurate and up to date

• Oversee and maintain the purchase ledger, ensuring invoices are processed correctly and queries are resolved promptly

• Perform regular bank reconciliations, identifying and resolving any variances

• Maintain accurate accounting records using internal finance systems

• Use Excel to analyse and interpret financial data, including working with functions such as lookups and pivot tables

• Work with colleagues across the business to resolve finance-related queries efficiently

• Handle financial information with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality in line with GDPR requirements

• Support improvements to existing finance processes and assist with the implementation of new procedures where required

• Provide support with ad-hoc reporting, analysis and finance-related projects

• Assist with year-end audit preparation, including providing supporting schedules and documentation when requested

• Provide cover for colleagues within the finance team when required and support the wider department as needed

• Fully AAT qualified or currently studying towards ACCA or CIMA as a minimum requirement

• Previous experience working in a finance or accounts role

• Strong Excel capability, including experience with lookups and pivot tables

• Good understanding of reconciliations and core accounting processes

• Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills

• A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders
