Job Title: Forklift Operator

Department: Warehouse / Production

Location: Canterbury, Kent - area

Hours of Work: As per contract

Hourly Rate: £12.90 (Overtime available at a higher rate)

Reporting to: Warehouse Supervisor / Operations Manager

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Forklift Operator to join our warehouse and production team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating forklifts to move materials and products throughout the warehouse and production areas. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods and materials, contributing to the efficiency of our operations and meeting production goals. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, growing production environment where your contributions make a significant impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate forklifts safely to transport materials, products, and finished goods to various locations within the warehouse and production areas.
  • Load and unload deliveries and shipments, ensuring all items are moved and stored in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Ensure the safe storage of materials and products, adhering to safety regulations and organizational policies.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring stock levels are monitored and updated regularly.
  • Help with the setup of production lines, including the movement of materials to the appropriate areas.
  • Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth operations across the warehouse and production environment.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and operational guidelines at all times.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure the forklift is kept in good working condition.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Timely movement and delivery of materials to production and storage areas
  • Accuracy in inventory handling and stock management
  • Safe operation of forklift equipment with minimal incidents
  • Feedback from Warehouse and Production Managers on operational efficiency
  • Compliance with safety regulations
  • Contribution to overall productivity and smooth flow of operations

Required Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • Valid forklift operator license (counterbalance and reach truck preferred)
  • Proven experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or production environment
  • Basic understanding of warehouse and stock management
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to follow operational protocols and safety standards

Desirable:

  • Experience in a food production or warehouse logistics environment
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS)
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced production environment
