Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js, TypeScript)

We're supporting a recently acquired sports and gaming technology business as they strengthen their senior engineering capability across core backend platforms and data systems.

They're hiring 2x Senior Backend Engineers to take technical ownership across a complex CMS, data platforms and integration-heavy services. These are hands-on senior roles focused on delivery, architecture, and mentoring within a distributed engineering team.

The work is centred around scaling core backend systems, improving performance and reliability, and building integrations across internal services. One of the roles will also support HubSpot integrations, though this is a nice to have rather than a core requirement.

The Role
You'll be working across Node.js and TypeScript services that power multiple websites, internal tools and commercial data platforms. This is a technical leadership position without line management, suited to engineers who can drive system design decisions while remaining hands-on.

You'll contribute across backend development, architecture, and delivery, helping raise engineering standards and reduce reliance on the central architect.

Key Focus Areas
* Backend development across Node.js and TypeScript services
* Building and improving APIs, integrations and data-driven systems
* System design, architecture input and scalability work
* Mentoring engineers and improving technical standards
* Working closely with product, delivery and engineering leadership
* Leading integration work across multiple internal platforms
* Supporting CRM/HubSpot integrations in one of the roles (nice to have)

Tech Environment
Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, APIs, microservices, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), data integrations, distributed systems.

What They're Looking For
* 6-10+ years backend engineering experience
* Strong Node.js and TypeScript background in production environments
* Experience working on large, complex backend systems
* System design and architecture capability
* Experience mentoring or acting as a technical lead
* Strong integration experience across APIs and services

Nice to Have
* Experience integrating HubSpot or similar CRM platforms
* DevOps/SRE awareness
* Experience in gaming, sports, fintech or high-scale consumer platforms
* Marketplace or booking-style platform experience

* Outside IR35
* Up to £600/day
* 6 month initial contract (strong extension potential)
* UK/EU remote with optional London presence
* 2 stage interview process
