JOB TITLE: SENIOR LEGAL CASHIER - Hybrid

LOCATION: Bedford

HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9am - 5:30pm Monday to Friday


Looking to work in Bedford and avoid a long commute?

We are partnering with a well-established, reputable law firm in Bedford and seeking an experienced Senior Legal Cashier to join their finance team.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing all day-to-day legal cashiering duties to a high professional standard, ensuring full compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules. The ideal candidate will manage complex financial postings accurately and efficiently, while providing essential cover for telegraphic transfers (T/Ts) and payroll as required.

Daily Duties:

  • Posting of receipts, payments, transfers, and disbursements to client and office ledgers.
  • Managing daily banking processes, including reconciliations, cheque handling, and allocation of funds.
  • Processing refunds, write-offs, and adjustments in accordance with internal controls.
  • Monitoring ledger balances and resolving queries from fee earners promptly.
  • Supporting internal audit processes and preparing documents for external accountants’ reports.
  • Providing cover for processing telegraphic transfers (T/Ts
  • Providing absence cover for Payroll
  • Assisting with bank reconciliations and ledger checks at month-end.

Suggesting improvements to streamline processes and strengthen financial accuracy.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Legal cashiering experience in a law firm.
  • Strong working knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Experience covering T/T processes in a legal environment.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong Excel and legal accounts software skills.

Desirable

  • Basic working knowledge of payroll processes.
  • Experience with high-volume conveyancing/completion environments.
  • Familiarity with digital approval workflows and online banking platforms.
