Assistant Accountant

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 plus company specific benefits


Location: Bedfordshire (Hybrid)

Robert Walters are partnering a a forward thinking, growing organisation operating within an innovative and sustainability-focused sector on the recruitment of a newly created Assistant Accountant role. This is a permanent opportunity within a growing organisation expanding into new markets - ideal for someone looking for stability, development, and meaningful work. This role is based in Bedfordshire and it's hybrid with just one day a week in the office.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with statutory accounts preparation in line with IFRS, including corporation tax and R&D tax requirements
  • Support payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and timely submissions
  • Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors
  • Support management accounts preparation, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable processes using Xero, including invoice processing, supplier reconciliations and credit card statements
  • Maintain the invoice register to support accurate month-end reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement in finance processes
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to provide financial insight
  • Use accounting systems and ERP tools to improve efficiency and reporting

The right person:

  • Proven experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role
  • AAT Qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, payroll and month-end processes
  • Experience with Xero (or similar accounting software)
  • Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial data
  • Exposure to ERP systems
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and statutory accounts
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative and proactive
