Temporary Accountant - with Sage
SME business in Leicester
£200-250 per day via umbrella
We are seeking an experienced Temporary Accountant who has strong Sage experience to support an SME business based in Leicester. This is an interim assignment to ensure continuity and stability within the finance function on an interim basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for running the day-to-day accounts function, reporting directly to the CEO with support of a NED. This role requires someone who is confident working independently, highly competent in Sage (essential), and able to start immediately or very shortly.
This is a 5 days per week, office-based role in Leicester.
The Role
As Temporary Accountant you will:

• Take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function.
• Maintain and manage the Sage system, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for the Director.
• Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank reconciliations, and journals.
• Payroll processing monthly paid, VAT returns, and statutory submissions.
• Monitor cash flow and support basic forecasting.
• Ensure financial records are accurate, up to date, and audit-ready.
• Liaise with external accountants and key stakeholders

About You:

• Strong, practical experience using Sage - which is essential (ideally L50)
• Ideally AAT qualified or Qualified by Experience.
• Proven experience running accounts independently within an SME environment.
• Comfortable reporting to senior stakeholders and working with minimal supervision.
• Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to step in and add value immediately.
• Available to start immediately, or at short notice and commit to working 5 days per week on-site in Leicester.
