VAT Manager in London - Clear IT Recruitment Limited

The Role

Reporting to the VAT Director, the VAT Manager will play a central role in a growing VAT team. You will act as the trusted adviser to a varied client portfolio, lead on complex VAT matters, manage HMRC enquiries, and support junior team members.

This is a high-impact, advisory-focused role with genuine scope to shape and grow the VAT offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as lead VAT adviser to your client portfolio, delivering clear, commercial solutions.

• Lead complex VAT advisory work using legislation, case law and HMRC guidance.

• Represent clients in HMRC enquiries and disputes.

• Own technical quality and compliance across engagements.

• Identify risks and opportunities and escalate strategically when required.

• Support business development and cross-group referrals.

• Mentor and develop junior team members.

• Keep up to date with VAT legislation and emerging HMRC positions.

• Build strong relationships with HMRC and external advisers.

About You

• Strong technical VAT background (CTA, legal, or equivalent experience).

• Significant VAT experience in practice or specialist tax environment.

• Proven client-facing advisory experience.

• Experience managing HMRC enquiries and disputes.

• Commercial, proactive, and confident communicator.

• Experience supporting or managing junior staff.
