Assembly Technician - Automotive Refuse Equipment
Location: Leyland

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Assembly Technician to join my client's market-leading automotive manufacturing team in Leyland. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the production of high-quality refuse collection equipment fitted to commercial vehicles used across the UK.

If you have hands-on experience in automotive assembly, mechanical fitting, or vehicle body building, and you take pride in precision workmanship, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

Key Responsibilities

Assembly & Installation

  • Assemble and install refuse collection systems onto commercial vehicle chassis.
  • Fit mechanical components, hydraulic assemblies, and electrical fixtures according to drawings and build specifications.
  • Use a range of hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, and impact wrenches to complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Quality & Safety

  • Carry out inspections and functional tests to ensure all builds meet quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area.
  • Follow all health & safety procedures, including correct PPE use.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with production supervisors and engineering teams to troubleshoot build issues.
  • Report defects, delays, or material shortages promptly.
  • Support continuous improvement activities within the workshop.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in automotive assembly, mechanical fitting, or similar production roles.
  • Competent using power tools and familiar with fasteners, fixings, and torque settings.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and build instructions.
  • Must supply own basic hand tools (spanners, sockets, screwdrivers).
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working on your feet throughout the shift.
Desirable Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Fitting, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Forklift or overhead crane certification.
  • Experience working with hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
