Job Description

A well established, family run business is seeking a dependable and experienced Assistant Accountant to support the finance function with daily and monthly accounting activities.

This varied role covers customer and supplier reconciliations, quarterly VAT returns, bank reconciliations, and the upkeep of company ledgers.

You will also provide payroll cover when required and support the smooth running of day to day finance operations, reporting directly to the Finance Manager.

Responsibilities

As an Assistant Accountant, your duties will include:

  • Reconciling customer accounts.

  • Reviewing supplier statements and ensuring all invoices are accurately entered and approved for payment.

  • Completing bank reconciliations including GBP and Euro accounts.

  • Producing reports for monthly management reviews and external auditors.

  • Preparing quarterly VAT returns and reconciling VAT control accounts.

  • Ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time.

  • Assisting with payroll processing during staff absences.

  • Supporting the wider finance team with ad-hoc tasks as required.

  • Processing supplier invoices and preparing weekly payment runs.

  • Printing reports, uploading documentation, and managing finance-related emails.

  • Assisting with rebate checks and general financial analysis.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly double-entry bookkeeping.

  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical skills.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
