Job Description
We are seeking a Management Accountant to take full ownership of the finance function within a growing distribution company. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced finance professional who can lead monthly reporting, optimise financial processes, and support the Managing Director with financial reports and updates.
Office based role, based near Manchester City Centre (Cheetham Hill).
Salary: circa £35k – 38k negotiable.
Key Responsibilities of the Management Accounting role:
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Produce accurate monthly management accounts, including analysis, commentary, and variance insight
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow planning
- Oversee all core accounting processes: ledgers, journals, accruals/prepayments, and reconciliations
- Deliver weekly and monthly financial reporting packs for leadership
- Manage month-end and year-end close with minimal supervision
- Cashflow monitoring and management
- Liaise closely with the external accountant on statutory accounts and compliance
- Review margins, costs, and profitability to identify trends and opportunities
Financial Operations & Control
- Oversee invoice processing, credit control, supplier payments, and bank/B/S reconciliations
- Ensure accuracy of financial data up to trial balance
- Manage payroll for approx. 20 staff and handle VAT submissions
- Strengthen internal controls, streamline processes, and enhance reporting systems
- Act as the main point of contact for HMRC, auditors, suppliers, and external stakeholders
Business Support & Leadership
- Provide financial insight to support the Managing Director in operational and commercial decisions
- Partner with internal teams to improve financial discipline and cost efficiency
- Support office management and basic HR administration where needed
- Maintain strong supplier, customer, and service-provider relationships
About You:
- Proven experience as a Management Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper with strong all-round finance capability
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and management reporting
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with Xero or Opera is an advantage
- Highly organised, analytical, detail-focused, and proactive
- Able to work independently and take full ownership of the finance function
- Strong communicator with the confidence to advise senior leadership
- Happy to undertake further HR Admin duties to support the MD & the business.
