Summary

We're supporting a respected public sector organisation in their search for a Finance Manager to join their team in Spalding or Boston. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional who enjoys a mix of hands-on financial management, team leadership, and strategic business partnering within the public sector and government environment.

The Finance Manager will lead a small finance team responsible for delivering accurate budgets, management accounts, and financial reporting for a local authority. You'll play a key role in supporting service managers, ensuring robust financial governance, and helping to shape long-term financial planning.

The role
  • Take responsibility for monthly budget monitoring for both revenue and capital programmes, producing clear variance analysis and actionable insight.
  • Lead and develop a finance team, ensuring high-quality delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate annual budget setting, forecasting, and year-end reporting.
  • Strengthen financial controls and ensure compliance with policy, audit, and statutory requirements.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to non-financial managers, helping them understand and manage their budgets effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with senior colleagues across finance and operations to deliver joined-up, efficient solutions.
Candidate profile
  • Fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent) with relevant continuing professional development.
  • Strong background in local government finance, with experience of delivering annual budgets, management accounts, and financial statements.
  • Confident people leader with experience developing high-performing teams.
  • Proficient in financial systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communicator, capable of influencing stakeholders and explaining complex financial information clearly.
  • Organised and adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
