Commercial Account Handler – Newbury, Berkshire – £35,000–£45,000 + Benefits
Carlton Young is supporting a welcoming and established insurance broking team in Newbury with the recruitment of an experienced Commercial Account Handler. This is an excellent long-term opportunity for a commercially experienced handler who enjoys delivering high standards of service, supporting client retention and growth, and contributing to a collaborative team environment. You will provide technical, administrative and client-service support to a nominated Account Executive and the wider team, handling a varied portfolio of commercial and corporate risks across a range of industries.
Key Responsibilities
• Support Account Executives in achieving new business and renewal targets through proactive administration and customer care.
• Manage and grow a portfolio of commercial and corporate clients, providing high-quality service throughout the renewals lifecycle.
• Conduct research and prepare documentation for prospect fact-finding in advance of client meetings.
• Obtain quotations for potential upsell opportunities (e.g. Excess PL, D&O, Excess PI, Loss Recovery and additional services) and include them in client review documents.
• Arrange and, on occasion, accompany Account Executives to client renewal appointments to strengthen relationships.
• Prepare detailed renewal review reports and obtain up-to-date claims information where needed.
• Broking new business or renewals to market in line with AE strategy, preparing comprehensive and high-quality submission documents.
• Deal professionally and promptly with incoming enquiries from clients, insurers and third parties.
• Maintain an organised diary system, including aged debtor lists, accounts queries, document chasing and renewal terms.
• Liaise with insurers and third parties on behalf of clients regarding their insurance needs.
• Provide administrative and customer support to colleagues as directed by the Commercial Administration Team leader.
Skills & Experience
• Minimum of 2+ years’ commercial insurance experience, either in broking or underwriting.
• Ability to handle new business enquiries, renewals and mid-term adjustments of various insurance policies.
• Excellent understanding of commercial insurance products and market options.
• Experience with Acturis or similar insurance broking software is advantageous.
• Commitment to progressing towards professional qualifications (e.g. Cert CII).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong customer service, negotiation, and organisational skills with attention to detail.
