If you're looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

Role purpose

The role of the Sustainability Platform Lead is essentially about being a technical guide who helps integrate sustainability into the technology platforms and systems at HSBC. This involves using your broad experience across different technology areas to find practical solutions that can be applied now and in the future. You'll act like an internal consultant, using your technical skills to understand various options and turn strategic ideas into actionable plans that make our technology choices more sustainable. Additionally, you'll be responsible for creating a long-term plan and framework to ensure sustainability is a key part of our technology design moving forward. This role is ideal for someone with a background in technology consulting, architecture, or engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate Chief Technical Office infrastructure and platform perspectives and translate customer needs into platform and infrastructure requirements that incorporate sustainability considerations.
  • Act as a bridge between customer needs and provider capabilities to identify opportunities for sustainability in current and future initiatives.
  • Turn strategic thinking into viable business cases for change and act as a thought leader on the sustainability agenda in infrastructure and architecture activities.
  • Outline requirements for CTO platforms with sustainability and cost considerations.
  • Support strategic interactions and determine necessary strategic changes.
  • Participate in calls to offer immediate thoughts and recommendations.

Key Skills:
  • Critical thinking with the ability to engage and influence up to senior executive levels.
  • Strategic solution architecture thinking with the ability to analyse requirements.
  • Understanding of sustainability in a technology context and awareness of industry technology trends and the external environment.
  • Technical acumen to understand and determine different optionality in requirements being developed.
  • Understanding of how enterprise infrastructure and platforms work.
  • Experience with containerization, virtualization, and cloud technologies.
  • Ability to conduct cost modelling and determine business case viability.

Being open to different points of view is important for our business and the communities we serve. At HSBC, we're dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive workplaces - no matter their gender, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or age. We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring careers at HSBC are inclusive and accessible for everyone to be at their best. We take pride in being a Disability Confident Leader and will offer an interview to people with disabilities, long term conditions or neurodivergent candidates who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
