San Diego Area Description

California’s second largest city is around 120 miles to the south of Los Angeles and right on the border with Mexico.

Defense-related activities are one of San Diego’s economic drivers thanks to a long association with the United States Navy due to the city’s deepwater port.

Ship and submarine building take place here and the military has a huge presence in the area.

Research and manufacturing are important contributors to the local economy, and a number of biotechnology companies are growing thanks to the presence of the city’s university, part of the University of California.

Imports and exports also account for a significant amount of trade.
